"I enjoy the challenge of transparent watercolor painting - especially outdoors on location. Here the artist, space, wind, sky and flowing washes of color all blend together to bring about a somewhat controlled, yet unpredictable result.
"The experience is exhilarating."

Richard Morton was born in Dallas, Texas in 1921. He later moved to Oklahoma City. He studied art at Pratt Institute in New York and served in a camouflage battalion in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. On his own initiative he made many on the spot sketches which are part of the permanent military collection of Brown University Library.
Upon his return to the United States, Richard painted many landscapes of the U.S. Southwest and Mexico, working always outdoors and in the medium of transparent watercolor. Over the last few years Richard painted watercolors of landscapes and nautical scenes on location in the State of Maryland, where he lived with his wife and partner, Sara.
Morton's paintings have received awards in national juried exhibitions and his work is included in permanent institutional collections. His biography appears in Who's Who in American Art.
Richard Morton died on July 6, 2003 and left a private collection of over 100 original watercolors painted on location in the United States Southwest and Mexico. Sara Morton, Richard's wife and his art estate's representative, is now accepting offers from collectors and art dealers for all or a portion of his private collection; contact her to make arrangements to see all or a portion of this exclusive collection.
